December Tips

Wishing the World a better year with successful vaccinations.

I have been doing mostly WalkingOnlineWorkouts for the rest of the year but meanwhile there are loads of workouts added to youtube and Vimeo by some of my favorite trainers that are calling my name, especially Sharona's Hill on youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPOts9eHjf-7wZq4Ku3LOnQ     and Medora on Vimeo  https://vimeo.com/user109853793

I have updated my March 7 post with tips on playing videos on a tv using a ROKU or Chromecast with a Mobile device.   http://neverendingplateau.blogspot.com/2020/03/play-video-files-on-roku-from-phone.html
I have been exercising with either the ROKU on one tv or more recently the Chromecast on another tv.  Previously to these devices, I mostly used a laptop screen and powered speakers or a HDMI cable.   A smartphone with the Web Caster Video app enables video streaming sites on the ROKU which do not have ROKU app. A Smartphone ROKU Channel app plays video files stored on its sd card and ROKU's Media Player Channel plays files from a laptop  The smartphone enables online videos on the Chromecast much better than the nearby laptop which was my main workout source.   The laptop's VLC media player can render the playback of a video file to the Chomecast.  I have not used a DVD player with stereo speakers hooked up to the tv and  my beloved hexagon bungee in the basement in over a year which used to be my favorite workout setup.  This old dog has learned lots of new tricks.

Kukuwa Dance Fitness and Community Fitness

I had been doing mostly youtube with loud music or music only and some edited files of videos to which I had replaced the audio.  I found many of the youtube videos very similar to one another so see no point in paying for any of them.  Sadly, the same can  be said of many streaming subscriptions using the same old moves, music, and settings except for Kukuwa Dance Fitness.  The discount code STAYWELL33 still gave 1/3 off the monthly price and dozens of new workouts had been added since I last subscribed.  The style is so different from anything else that I am finding that I am moving my boomsey more.  If a particular audio track is not working for me, preferring loud music with less shouting, I can easily choose another video.  Lots of different backgrounds, outfits, and participants.  The moves are fun and easy to follow and work well on the rebounder or standing, even while sitting.  My workout enthusiasm has returned after slowly dwindling.

The website streams fine on Chromecast, even from the Chrome browser tab and there is a ROKU app.

Microsoft Edge Video Downloaders

After discovering that Microsoft Edge could be installed on Windows 7 with an update, I gave it a try.

Edge imported my Chrome Bookmarks and Extensions nicely.

Chrome video downloading extensions work on Edge including Video Download Helper and Stream Video Downloader (green arrow).  I may eventually buy the lifetime VideoDownloadHelper if I am sure it will download well without the watermark and taking forever with some videos aggregating.

Through Edge, I found a program called YouTubeByClick which downloaded youtube videos at a higher definition than most of my other methods. https://www.youtubebyclick.com/    Sadly, only their Premium works after a one day free trial.

The Get Video program and the Video Download Helper Extension still work for VK and youtube downloading.

Get Video download for Windows https://getvideo.org/en/download

4K Video Downloader works well with Facebook and youtube most of the time. https://www.4kdownload.com/products/product-videodownloader

Downloading and Ripping Update

For downloading videos from youtube and facebook,
I use 4K Video Downloader.
Free version has ads which do not bother me.
https://www.4kdownload.com/downloads
However, this option does not function as well as it used to for youtube.

A better youtube (and VK option) is GetVideo
For Windows program download https://getvideo.org/en/download

also for youtube YouTubeByClick https://www.youtubebyclick.com/

Another youtube download option:
Ummy
https://ummy.net

(many downloads are now limited to 360 mp4)

For downloading video files on Chrome,
try the Video DownloadHelper extension which has been used on Firefox  for several years.
I still like Stream Video Downloader but my Windows 7 laptop no longer likes it LOL

For ripping a DVD, try Handbrake
https://handbrake.fr/downloads.php

For Windows, Freemake Video Converter for ripping and burning dvds
I prefer an older version of Freemake Video Converter (GOLD)
4.1.9.12 from 2016
and refuse all updates
(just close the pop up window for an update)

There are lots of sites that offer older Freemake versions
but if you have an old setup file still on you pc,
try that after uninstalling the newer Freemake version you do not want.

If installing an older version of Freemake,
refuse all optional offers to avoid bloatware.
If you want to get rid of bloatware
try malwarebytes adcleaner

Sarina on FaceBook Live

The Canadian Barefoot Dancer (Sarina Condello ) offers a FaceBook Live video on Saturday mornings while everyone is staying at home because of the pandemic..

Today's with her son was so much fun.
https://www.facebook.com/sarina.condello/videos/10219838030674954

I cannot stop smiling!

Sarina has made Saturday my favorite day of the week.
Here is another gift:
https://www.facebook.com/sarina.condello/videos/10219918584448748

Her son just makes me smile and even LOL.

In contrast, I am dumping Misty Tripoli who complained about an unnecessary (to her) quarantine in Mexico.  I have all of her dvds from her very first series and have subbed to her streaming for a month a few times a year.  (Thankfully did not get stuck in an annual subscription).
Sometimes she seemed self-absorbed, mugging and posing for the camera, but I gave her the benefit of doubt till she posted a video this past week that exposed her real self.  Instead of helping her fans feel better during this pandemic, she is resenting stay at home policies.
I'll never be able to enjoy dancing with her again, knowing how self-centered she truly is.
Most Mexicans know they are lucky that their government acted aggressively to contain Covid19.
trump could have saved 90% of our deaths if he had acted just 2 weeks sooner or listened to the advice of the Obama transition team.
trump's wall is now beneficial to Mexico keeping Americans out.

Youtube Stuff

Having a ROKU has made working out with youtube channels much nicer.
Many instructors have been uploading stuff since social distancing prevented classes.

The ReboundUK Rebound Fitness channel has been uploading a bunch of rebounding routines on youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/user/reboundUK/videos

Here are other channels worth checking out for new content with decent music:

Planet Motion Live Classes and others

Many instructors are offering live streams during this time of quarantines.

Kendra Howard did her first Planet Motion live stream on youtube
https://youtu.be/-VvaMQB_OlU

The class will be archived on youtube and there will be another each Sunday.

Also on youtube is a gift from Cass with mom Kukuwa
https://youtu.be/HjkTGCCua_c

code STAYWELL33 saves you 33% on https://kukuwafitness.vhx.tv/browse

Silver Sneakers is archiving their Live Facebook: videos:
https://www.facebook.com/pg/silversneakers/videos/

I have been exercising at home regularly for 20 years. It started with vhs then dvd then digital downloads and streams. I cannot imagine paying $10 for a zoom live class that is done at a specific time and never again. There are much better streaming options.
I removed previous info about StudioNia Santa Fe because they are switching their online classes from Facebook Live to ZOOM tomorrow.
Each Zoom class will cost $10.
or a $5 community fee if on a tight budget.
IMHO Zoom is not worth $1 a class.
Zoom is confusing and one never know if the class will stream well.
In comparison, NiaTV has much better quality and is available 24/7.
Also Misty Tripoli's Body Grooves is a great option.
Both are offering free trials up to a whole month and various discounts.

Bellyfit was offering all of their bundle downloads for free with a code.

My favorite streaming site WalkingOnlineWorkouts (WOW) charges just $10 a month for unlimited access.
$10 for one zoom class is ridiculous.

Bellyfit International did a great FaceBook Live class.on 3-28, much better than any ZOOM.
https://www.facebook.com/Bellyfit/videos/548688752718657

Sarina the Barefoot Dancer also did a FaceBook Live.

Play Video Files on ROKU or Chromecast from Mobile Device

If you have a mobile device, the Chromecast seems much better than the ROKU IMHO.
If you do not have a mobile device then ROKU has an advantage.

The Chromecast is great for streaming from mobile apps and video files stored on the mobile device.
It can also enable the casting of websites from your mobile device or pc using the Chrome browser.
I believe my phones cast videos better than my laptops.
For mirroring a website from a laptop desktop, a HDmi cable seems better.
Chromecast can stream video files on a pc by *rendering* the playback when using VLC to open the file.

If you do not have a mobile phone or tablet, the ROKU Express can work well if a website has its own ROKU app.  You may need a mobile device and an app like the Web Video Caster app for streaming directly from Websites which do not offer a ROKU app.
To cast a video file stored on a Windows pc to the ROKU, you can use the ROKU Media Player Channel,  Play On, or  Plex.   Alternatively, Windows10 can stream a video file to ROKU.  On the ROKU, go to the settings then system to enable mirroring.  On Windows10, go to the right of the screen and click on the bubble icon to bring up notices then click on the connect tile and choose ROKU then play the video file.
The ROKU mobile app on a smartphone enables casting stored media files directly from your phone (or device) to your ROKU.  For myself, I prefer using the WVC app to play a video file stored on my mobile. Store the video files on a sd card because internal phone storage may be limited.

I have been collecting video files for decades.
I use Web Video Caster (WVC) to play private videos stored on a video hosting site (VK.com) when using a ROKU  WVC also can send a video file on the mobile device to the ROKU. However, I am preferring the Chromecast for streaming from VK.com..  After a few clicks on the tv input and smart phone, I am moving without software/or hardware incompatibilities.

Bottomline,
I like the ROKU express for its apps but need the Web Video Caster app on a mobile device to stream directly from a website which does not have its own app on ROKU.  Also video files stored on the mobile device can cast to the ROKU either through the ROKU app or through WVC.
Chromecast streams great with a smart phone and renders playback of a pc video file using VLC without a smartphone. The only flaw is VLC rendering does not play subtitles on Chromecast.   I do not like the audio when casting VK videos from the Windows10 laptop Chrome browser to the Chromecast even though they are just a few feet apart but I can mirror the desktop and stream to Chromecast and get the audio. Mirroring also enables watching a movie file with subtitles.

If you do not have a mobile device, you can get a cheap tracfone smartphone and use it like a tablet on WiFi only without tracfone service activation.  There are great deals on HSN for tracfones with one year of service if you decide you want mobile data accessibility or even to use it as a mobile phone.  The prices and available products vary from week to week but this site can help:

This is my favorite for its battery but there are smaller cheaper ones which will do what you may want

device only option

holiday sale

or you can get the cheapest tracfone smartphone on Amazon and just use it like a tablet on WiFi, skipping a tracfone bundle, activation, or service.
Just put the smart phone into airplane mode and enable the WiFi and Bluetooth if desired.
You can even use Google Voice to send and receive calls and texts.

New Stuff

I bought a foam Chef mat at Aldi because it would make standing in front of our sink more comfortable and the color was perfect.

My bare feet love it and it absorbs impact so I tried it as an exercise mat and may actually like it as much as a rebounder mat!  I have several rebounders and sometimes feel insecure when trying new moves and usually then switch to a chair.
This mat brings a whole new level to my workouts.
(Walmart has larger cushioned mats that are cheaper too)

Speaking of rebounding:
This is a very nice rebounding routine with great moves and music from a facebook group called
Earth & Owl Yoga
(I hope they share more vids online in the future)
https://www.facebook.com/earthandowl/videos/1802113619920477/

Another hopeful future unique workout creator is Ori Active which combines music with hula motions and has various choices for audio.
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA2I-i0Q8DZJzrWS1zXvLyw

Of course I prefer the music only option:

https://youtu.be/PWqm0mi4FA4

There are many new fitness apps for ROKU lately.
I suggest trying their free trials and subscribing online
then using their ROKU channels to view them on TV.
(I do not trust ROKU customer support when it comes to subscribing to channels)

Some suggestions with decent apps are
Vimeo
Purple Play (Leslie Sansone, Jessica Smith Digital purchases, etc.)
Get Healthy U TV (try code CHRISGOLD20 for a year of Gold for $20)
BollyX
Misty Tripoli Body Groove
NiaTV

Remember, too, that the Web Video Caster phoneapp will work with many online sites that do not have their own unique app.
I really love this app for WalkingOnlineWorkouts which is my favorite subscription.

Our Son The Waiter!

(actually he is a full-time digital marketing professional and part-time actor)

There was a period after college graduation when he was trying to be a waiter instead of just a Hard Rock host while aspiring to be an actor and director.  Being the waiter in a First Date production fulfills both.

Neuropathy

The procedure described in this article is similar to what I had experienced with a chiropractor who was supposedly a neuropathy specialist after giving him thousands of dollars because our medical insurance did not recognize his treatments.  Granted, there were several therapeutic procedures used besides the one described in the article.  Some helped a bit but only temporarily and the more I was treated, the less I saw of the doctor and the less I was impressed with the technicians administrating the procedures.  Every patient was given similar treatments, no matter their neuropathy source.

I did lose about 20 pounds which would have been impossible without the supplements and anti-inflammatory dietary guidelines he provided but the pain was not affected by what I ate. I excluded inflammatory food to try to avoid food triggers and did not want my lack of control responsible for wasting all of the money I paid and not healing.  The only explanation for my nerve damage was being on a statin for way too long. Nerve damage from statins is usually permanent. The extensive blood tests  I received revealed stress playing the largest part for my condition (cortisol was elevated) and stress does seem to exacerbate my discomfort..  To be fair, before statins, I did suffer from various painful conditions, most likely undiagnosed fibromyalgia which is greatly affected by stress.

Bottomline, Women should not use statins, especially if they suffer nerve inflammations because nerve damage from statins is permanent.

Secret Garden Reading

I had seen the Secret Garden with our son many years ago (front row center) and it was magical.  He had a reading with a NYC community theater group and landed Dickon and did quite well singing and speaking with an accent.
Here he sings one of my favorite tunes from the show.

Chazael

I stumbled upon another pain relief product called Chazael which may be a real winner.
It went on nicely and neatly and dried quickly with no residue.
It made my feet feel much better, less burning and aching.
Knee pain disappeared completely.
The real test will be how long its effects last after an application.

ETA: no night time or morning leg and foot cramping!
Plus it stopped back pain immediately with just one application.
Definitely, the best pain med in my arsenal.

Price-wise I paid more for stuff that didn't help much.

Refit on Demand

I am in the middle of a free trial and still not sure if I will sub or not.
I do not like that they only show a limited number of the most recent live workouts, the verbal cuing including loud Whoos and Heys, and the indoor lighting.

BUT

I love the Mr.Johnson class and am enjoying their music and moves, especially the slower RevFlow.  I'll just skip the instructors who love to shout annoying noises and see how I feel  by the end of the trial.
One phone app (Tibio) enables their casting to ROKU nicely.

There are two ways to get free month trial codes on Refit on Demand.
